Incremental Scalability
Based on storage needs and deployment schedules, HPSS scales incrementally by adding computer, network and storage resources. A single HPSS namespace can scale from petabytes of data to exabytes of data, from millions of files to billions of files, and from a few file-creates per second to thousands of file-creates per second.

What to expect with the 2022 HUF
We are going back to basics with this event. We’re going to focus on sharing information and experiences related to HPSS without other extracurricular activities that we all have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated with many past HUFs. We know those activities are valuable, too – they give us an opportunity to see special places unique to the hosting location, provide time to network, reconnect with friends, and talk more deeply about one of our favorite things - HPSS! We are all for doing those things. We are sorry, though, we do not have time to include that level of complexity or expense into the event this year. If we have interest from industry partners to host an outside activity, we will work to incorporate it into the week. The highlight of the 2022 HUF will be all of you who attend! Please come.
Social Distancing and our Meeting Room
We have a conference room large enough to accommodate 36-40 people comfortably under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, we do not feel we have normal circumstances yet. We understand concerns about social distancing and being around other people. We are planning to arrange the room in a way that allows some people to be seated away from other people (e.g., using every other chair). We expect there are other ways for people to participate and still feel comfortable being in the conference room (e.g., sitting in a chair away from people but without a table). We will do what we can to make sure people are comfortable participating. At this time, masks will not be required but attendees are welcome to wear one. There are COVID- 19 vaccines available that are safe and effective, too.
Attending HUF Sessions
When you are here to attend the HUF, please be aware of how you’re feeling. While we understand you will have gone through much time, effort, and expense to be here, if you do not feel well or something feels different, please consider skipping the event and not coming into the conference room with all the other attendees. Everyone else will be very appreciative of your sensitivity and consideration managing risks of spreading a possible infection. We will make all HUF materials available once the HUF is over.
Event Location, Airports, Recommendations, Getting Around, Directions:
Location and Visitor InformationThe 2022 HUF will be held at IBM's HPSS facility located at 12301 Kurland Drive, Suite 300 (3rd floor), Houston, TX 77034.
IBM's facility is on the third floor of the building and is access controlled, so you may have to wait for someone to let you inside. You will need to sign in and out each day, and obtain an IBM visitor badge upon sign-in. Please return your badge when you leave at the end of the day and plan to use it the following day. When in the IBM facility, your assigned IBM visitor badge must always be visible. You will need the badge to access restrooms and conference rooms.
Airports
Houston has two major airports. There is one international airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), which is on the north side of Houston and a 40-70 minute drive from IBM's HPSS facility. The second airport, William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is much closer to the south side of Houston where we are located and the part of town where we recommend you stay during the HUF.
Lodging Location Recommendations
We do not recommend you stay close to either of the airports because one is super far away and there are better options. We recommend staying in Webster or Nassau Bay or in a hotel close to Bay Area Boulevard and Interstate 45 or NASA Parkway (also known as NASA Road 1) and Interstate 45. Please let us know if you need more assistance with lodging recommendations.
Getting Around
Houston is the fourth most populous city in the United States. It is a very large metropolitan area without a robust mass transit system, but it does have plenty of freeways (and construction) to get around. Car rentals are available at the airports. Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are popular and readily available. If you are interested in sharing a car or transportation with other HUF attendees, please let us know and we will help try to find a match.
Directions
Driving information can be found on the HPSS website under the heading "Directions" (http://www.hpss-collaboration.org/contact_us.shtml). Upon arrival at the building, please plan to register your vehicle and sign-in at the security desk in the building lobby.
