HPSS Services Offering from IBM
High Performance StorageThe High Performance Storage System is a Services Offering from IBM Global Services - Federal (Houston, Texas). A Statement of Work and License Agreement define the HPSS services and software provided by IBM. The contract documents are a Statement of Work and a License Agreement.

Services Offered Description
Standard services offering for a single HPSS instance* for new customers in the first year.

The computer operating system platforms, tape and library devices that are supported in the standard offering are listed in the HPSS Technology section.

During the first year for new customers, IBM provides the following services:
  • Assistance with storage system engineering and requirements analysis,
  • Assistance with installation of prerequisite software,
  • Installation of HPSS software,
  • Configuration and tuning of HPSS,
  • Assistance with pre-production testing of the storage system.
  • Review of the HPSS system prior to putting it into production,
  • Ongoing technical support of HPSS.

Standard services offering for a single HPSS instance* for existing customers (second and subsequent years) During the second and subsequent years for existing customers, IBM provides the following services:
  • Assistance with problem resolution,
  • Planning for storage system upgrades,
  • Assistance with changing the HPSS configuration (new devices, classes of service, storage classes, movers, etc.),
  • Periodic program reviews,
  • HPSS software patches
  • New HPSS software releases
Extensions to the standard offering. Currently available extensions to the standard offering include:
Special Services Special arrangements can be made to obtain services that are not currently part of the Standard or Extended Services Offering. IBM is able to supply the following services as part of a "special bid" arrangement:
  • 24X7 support for problem resolution.
  • Additional production instances of HPSS for a customer.
  • Extended onsite support of HPSS.
  • Support of PFTP and/or HPSS client API on platforms other than those on the "Multi-platform Capability for HPSS User Interface Clients" list.
  • Support of HPSS movers on SGI IRIX and Compaq Tru64 UNIX platforms.
  • Support for tape drives and libraries that are not currently part of the HPSS offering.

HPSS System* A single HPSS instance is a single HPSS system with a single Storage System Manager component deployed such that all HPSS components except clients are deployed at one physical customer location. An instance may include any number of computers running HPSS servers, movers, and other components.

What's New?
2012 HPSS Users Forum - The 2012 HPSS Users Forum (HUF) will be hosted by CEA and held at the Hotel Pullman (Paris Bercy) in Paris, France. The conference will run October 15th through noon on October 18th. The conference website is now available http://www-hpc.cea.fr/en/HUF2012/index.htm for users to register, view the draft agenda, and obtain other related information about the meeting. The length of the conference is the same as last year - 3 1/2 days, with time available in the evening to visit/tour Paris.



Purdue University: Data Storage Archive- Information Technology at Purdue will be upgrading the Fortress archive system from EMC's DiskXtender (DXUL) to IBM's High Performance Storage System (HPSS). Library of Congress: Data Storage Archive - The Library of Congress has acquired HPSS for use in the National Audiovisual Conservation Center. The NAVCC is located in Washington, DC and at the Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation, located in Virginia.
