Course Description:
The HPSS System
Administration course offers an overview of the components that make up the
HPSS software and the dependencies of these components on their environment
in order to perform data storage services. It covers both HPSS Release 6.2
and 7.1.
Educational
Objectives:
After completion of the
course, the student will be able to:

Understand the role of each HPSS software component
·
Plan, install and configure an HPSS system
·
Manage an HPSS system
·
Identify and resolve common operational problems
·
Utilize various HPSS utilities and the command line interface

Intended Audience:
This course is targeted for IT
professionals who are responsible for the configuration and administration
of an HPSS solution.
Pre-requisites:
As a course pre-requisite, the student should have
previous AIX/Linux system administration experience or training.
Registration and Payment Instructions:

The acceptable payment
method is company issued purchase order only. Please provide a purchase
order to Kayla Broussard either via email or fax on or before the payment
deadline of November 30, 2009.
3.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received after November 30, 2009 are subject to a cancellation fee of 25% of the course fee. If there is a need to cancel, please notify Kayla Broussard.
4.
No-Show Policy: Participates that are registered for the course and fail to attend are subject to a no-show fee of 100% of the course fee.

Students attending
this course should make arrangements ahead of time.
Accommodations: IBM recommends staying in Webster, Texas. It is approximately 10 minutes from the IBM facility and has an assortment of restaurants, shopping and entertainment (i.e. NASA).
Terms:
All HPSS training is
offered pursuant to terms and conditions equivalent to those set forth in
IBM’s GSA IT Schedule #70. Use of HPSS software requires an executed
HPSS License Agreement.
Directions:
The HPSS class will be held in the IBM
facility located at 12301
Kurland Drive, Suite 300, Houston,
TX 77034.

The IBM facility is on the third floor of
the building and is access controlled, so you may have to wait for the
receptionist to let you in. You will need to sign in and out once each day.
The receptionist will assign you a badge upon sign-in. Return your badge to
the receptionist when you leave at the end of the day. The receptionist
will also direct you to the HPSS classroom.
Please note, when in the IBM facility, your assigned IBM badge must
be visible and worn at all times.
Course Outline:
The class consists of the following:
Classroom
Lectures - Discussion sessions with the HPSS experts: HPSS
team members share their field experiences on
HPSS/DB2 system engineering,management,
and
troubleshooting.
System
Installation - The instructors will lead the students through the
installation process to configure a basic HPSS
system. This system will be used to
demonstrate
the HPSS functionality throughout the
class.
There will be no hands-on exercises for the
students .
