Course Description: 

The HPSS System Administration course offers an overview of the components that make up the HPSS software and the dependencies of these components on their environment in order to perform data storage services.  It covers HPSS Release 7.1.

Educational Objectives: 

After completion of the course, the student will be able to:

·         Understand the role of each HPSS software component.

·         Plan, install and configure an HPSS system.

·         Manage an HPSS system.

·         Identify and resolve common operational problems.

·         Utilize various HPSS utilities and the command line interface.

Intended Audience:

The System Administration class is recommended for system administrators with less than one year of experience with HPSS.

Pre-requisites:

As a course pre-requisite, the student should have previous AIX/Linux system administration experience or training.

Enrollment:

Enrollment deadline is May 20, 2009.  Seating is limited and will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.  IBM reserves the right to cancel the class at any time due to low enrollments.

Terms:

All HPSS training is offered pursuant to terms and conditions equivalent to those set forth in IBM’s GSA IT Schedule #70.  IBM training material will be provided.  IBM retains all right, title and interest (including ownership of copyright) to all IBM training material.  Materials may not be copied.  Use of HPSS software requires an executed HPSS License Agreement.

Directions:

Driving information can be found on the HPSS website (http://www.hpss-collaboration.org/hpss/contact/directions.jsp). 

The IBM facility is on the third floor of the building and is access controlled so you may have to wait for the receptionist to let you in. You will need to sign in and obtain a badge. You will need to sign in and out once each day. Return your badge to the receptionist when you leave at the end of the week.  The receptionist will also direct you to the HPSS classroom.
