An HDM must be run on the same machine where the DFS server is run. This may be a different machine than that running the core HPSS servers, so the HDM is not managed by SSM. Consequently, the procedures for managing an HDM are quite different from the procedures for managing other HPSS servers. Administration of an HDM is done with command line utilities. Many of these utilities require the administrator to log in as root or to use a DCE account.
